Sewing Fundamentals

Have you ever wanted to learn to sew? Create fantastic designs and learn a fundamental skill that will help you make your textile dreams come true! Whether making a cover for a chair or sewing a skirt, fixing a jacket or patching up a pair of jeans, these sewing fundamentals will empower you to fix up anything you need. We will cover several stitching techniques and learn about the sewing machine and how to use it. From there you will create two basic pieces: a pillow and a lined bag, which you will design and execute using the available sewing and textile tools!

Make your own clothes

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to create your own garment? How are clothes made anyway? And how do you design a piece of fashion? In this workshop, you will be led through the process of designing and creating your very own customized fashion article! From conception to finish, you will be led through the entire process of clothing design and have a wearable, beautiful design of your own to show for yourself at the end.

Working With Natural Dyes

Can you make color from scratch? Can you use what you do not need to create colorful clothes and drawings? Do you want to look around you and see color everywhere? The answer to all of these questions and more is: yes! From brilliant yellows and golds to greens, blues, pinks and reds, we can use the materials around us (like food!) to make color! In this workshop, we will be making large dye vats and making inks from scratch! We will learn how some of the magic behind variations by adding lemon juice or cream of tartar to our color pots and investigate the science behind how this works.  Each student will leave this class with colorfully dyed textiles, homemade inks, and more in-depth knowledge of sustainable artistic practices and how to innovate using the environment around them.
